PASTEL WORKSHOPS

with an emphasis on Composition and Color

All of Susan's workshops stress the fundamentals of compelling composition, while encouraging a personal approach to the creation of powerful color relationships.

Students can expect to work in the studio and/or on location (weather permitting).

Plein Air classes will be conducted primarily outdoors, with students painting the landscape from life. While working in natural light, you will be developing sound value studies, and small format color studies and paintings. Susan will provide daily demos, individual guidance with each student, and conduct group critiques.

Studio classes will be conducted primarily indoors, with students painting the landscape from a variety of resources. Value and color studies will be developed as the reference for larger format paintings. Using photo reference effectively, streamlining color relationships, and creating value/composition studies from life and photo reference will be covered. As with the plein air classes, Susan will provide daily demos, individual guidance with each student, and conduct group critiques.

Gifted with a generous and spirited teaching style, Susan shares her passion for painting. "It's all about letting go, discovering something exciting, and enjoying the ride. I act as the safety net!"
